Week 21
23 September 2007

Waihowhai whichs means "Kowhai by the water", is the largest block of native forest left in
Auckland City, hosting a valuable sample of Auckland's orginal fauna and flora.  The bush covers
an entire hillside stretching from the top of the ridge, down to the water.  With a panoramic view over Manukau Harbour, beautiful green lawns, a playground and picnic tables, this reserve is a popular family spot.  In spring the whole valley is ablase with yellow flowering Kowhai.  The
native Kowhai in turns attract the tui and rosella.
